RULES
RULES
Overview
Schedule: Teams will play 1 game each week. Some teams may be scheduled into double headers if need be.
Game Layout: Play is 6-on-6 plus a goalie (7v7 total) plus subs. A complete starting lineup consists of 7 players; 6 players on the field including a minimum of 2 women 1 man, and 1 goalkeeper. Teams are allowed to play short as long as there are at least 4 players on the field (excluding the goalkeeper).
Important Rules:
No Slide Tackling: No sliding or slide tackling is permitted.
No Offsides/No Cherry Picking: The offside rule will not be applied during games. However, if players are 'cherry picking' despite warnings from the facilitator, they may be required to sit out.
Games are self officiated, however facilitators will be on site and will act as refs to make calls if deemed necessary (confusion in the rules or any disagreement).
If any game cancellations occur, doubleheaders will be organized, or the end date for the season may be pushed back to compensate for missed games.
If a team does not show for a game or does not give enough notice for a replacement team to play they will be subject to a $65 charge which will be used to compensate the opponent and will result in 2 losses instead of 1 in standings. Teams can use players from other teams during the regular season to avoid this. Multiple incidents may lead to being removed from the league without a refund.
Equipment/Uniforms
The nets and on-site staff to monitor the games will be provided. A match ball will be available, but teams may use their own ball.
Players must bring a light and dark coloured shirt to each game. Goalkeepers must wear a different coloured jersey than the rest of their team as well as being different from the opposing team’s jerseys.
Metal cleats are not allowed.
Match Rules
Play is 6-on-6 plus a goalie (7v7 total) plus subs. A complete starting lineup consists of 7 players; 6 players on the field including a minimum of 2 women 1 man, and 1 goalkeeper. Teams are allowed to play short as long as there are at least 4 players on the field (excluding the goalkeeper).
Teams may change ends at half-time and the team who did not kick off the start of the game will kick off the second half.
A goal cannot be scored directly from a kick-off.
The opposing team must be at least 5 yards away from the ball in any direction on a kick-off, until the ball has been put into play.
Balls are out of play when the entire ball has crossed the side-line - this will result in a throw-in. A throw-in must be done with both hands, with both feet on the ground and from behind the head; the thrower cannot play the ball again until it has been touched by another player. A goal cannot be scored directly from a throw-in.
Balls are out of play when the entire ball has crossed the end line – this will result in a corner kick if a defending player was last to touch the ball, or a goal kick if an offensive player was the last to touch the ball. Opposing players must stand outside the goal box or at least 6 yards away until the kick is taken.
Goalies cannot handle the ball with their hands when the ball is a direct pass back from one of their own players. Goalkeeper can use their hands inside the goal area when the opposing team kicks the ball towards the goalie or if their own teammate heads the ball back to them. If a goalie uses his/her hands to play the ball in when it was thrown/passed by his/her own team then the opposing team is awarded an indirect free kick at the spot of the handling.
No Slide Tackling: No sliding or slide tackling is permitted. Any slide will result in an indirect fee kick, or penalty kick if in the goalie box. The player who slid will be removed from the game for 5 min and if done again will be sent off for the remainder of the game. Goalies may dive headfirst to make a save.
No Offsides/No Cherry Picking: The offside rule will not be applied during games. However, if players are 'cherry picking' despite warnings from the facilitator, they may be required to sit out.
Handballs – Hand to Ball not Ball to Hand (please only call for deliberate hand balls, i.e. a movement towards the ball)
Rolling substitutions can be made during game play, however the player coming in and out must enter / leave the field at the same spot. Goalkeepers can only be substituted for at a stoppage in play.
Fouls result in a indirect free kick to the opposing team from where violation happened, including the penalty/goalie box unless it was a direct goal scoring opportunity (ex. foul in the act of shooting in the box)
Defending players must be at least 5 yards away from the spot of an free kick, except when the ball is being kicked from a point closer than 5 yards from the goal line – in which case the defending players may stand on their goal line.
Penalty kicks occur when a defender (or goalkeeper) commits/is called for a foul during a direct scoring opportunity while inside their penalty area.
All players, except the goalkeeper and the player taking the kick, must remain outside of the goalie box until the ball is kicked
Goalkeeper must stand on their own goal-line between the goal posts without moving forward until the ball is kicked
Penalty kick must go forward, and the kicker cannot touch the ball a second time until it has been touched by another player
Penalty spot will be taken from eight yards from the goal
All penalties will be one step (no run ups)
Fouls must only be called by the players on the field and involved in the play. Players off the field or on the sidelines are not allowed to make any foul calls.
League staff are there primarily to help facilitate the games. Should there be need based on staff discretion, the facilitators can make calls. Staff also have the right to remove players from the game.
Playoffs
Players must play at least 1 game and be on a team’s roster in order to be eligible to participate during the playoffs. The waivers must be completed by all players. Once the playoffs begin, all members of your team are to bring valid photo ID to their games.
A roster check can be conducted before the game and any players not on the roster or unable to provide ID will not be allowed to participate. If a roster check is done at half-time and a player is not on the roster, or unable to provide ID, the team will be subject to a forfeit.
